Training on Web 2.0 Content Management System at FARC for MAISNET Members

The Food and Agricultural Research Council (FARC) hosted a crash-training programme on WEB 2.0 Content Management System on Thursday 9th December 2010 from 14:00 to 16:30 in its conference room. The aim was to empower MAISNET members in WEB 2.0 management such that the community could self-manage the MAISNET e-platforms.

The training was conducted by Mr. C.Sembhoo, Extension Officer at the Agricultural Research and Extension Unit and the participants were from:

AREU
Mr. Raj Teeluck and
Mr. Koppalah Radhakrisna (Extension Officers)

FoA-UoM
Mr. Navindra Boodia and Mr. Kamlesh Boodhoo (Lecturers)
Miss. Nawsheen Hosenally (Student)

MAIFS
Mr. Chandrashekhar Mooneeramsing (Scientific Officer)

FARC
Mrs. Chandasa Koelas (Assistant Research Scientist)
Mr. Jairaj Ramkissoon (Director General)

Several other MAISNET members (e.g from MSIRI, FSC, SPWF & AREU) were invited, but could not attend due to professional obligations or because they were on vacation.

The training started with how to manage the MAISNET Blog, whereby everything about the different parts of the blog was explained (RSS Feeds, Followers, the different gadgets that can be added to the blog, links, archives, disclaimer, different parts of a post etc.)

Then came the most interesting part of the training, which was about how to write a post and personalise it. The participants were asked to follow how to post an article first, and then had to post an article of their own, taking into consideration the formatting of text, pictures, links and labels. Moreover, some basic html codes were also taught to the participants, who found it very interesting.

Before finishing the training session, a brief introduction on IAALD and eRails was given my Mr C.Sembhoo and by the end, all the participants were satisfied and are grateful to the Director General of FARC for his attendance and support to host the training!

How to Join the Mauritius Agricultural Information Specialists Network (MAISNET)

MAISNET was setup in July 2010 as part of a SADC ICART Project Information Exchange initiative. It is a network of Agricultural Information Specialists in Mauritius and regroups professionals from the public and private sector, including members from the farming community. While MAISNET aims at promoting and facilitating information exchange on agriculture in Mauritius, it also collaborates with parent or sister organizations in the region on common issues.

The MAISNET also acts as the network of individuals and institutions supporting the SADC-Agricultural Information Management System (AIMS) and the Mauritius AIMS Committee. Thus it offers a platform for discussion on Agricultural Information, Communication and Knowledge Management at national level. Contributions by MAISNET are relayed on the SADC AIMS Web Portal (aims.sadc.int) and sister websites in SADC. Similarly, MAISNET members are regularly updated on regional and international activities. MAISNET members use DGroups Groupware to communicate with each other and to get downstream information from the parent organisation (SADC). However, it uses this website and its facebook account to interface with stakeholders. We are currently exploring the possibility of having a full fledge portal and other platforms to facilitate online collaboration.

Joining MAISNET is free. There are no fees involved since it is a virtual network. All we ask our members is to be proactive and to share agricultural information for the benefit of stakeholders, either by developing the content or by relaying it from other public sources.

To join MAISNET, send us an email on maisnet2010@gmail.com. In the subject, mention: Subscription to MAISNET. In the body, provide us with the following details:
